Since a very young age, singing was already very important to alto-mezzo soprano Lieke Beirnaert. As a child she was singing in several choirs, which made it possible for her to learn about different musical styles. When she grew up she took part in choirs like: the Dutch National Student Chamber Choir conducted by Maria van Nieukerken, Choir in Residence during Europa Cantat conducted by Michael Gohl and Masters and Colleagues conducted by Kaspars Putnins. She took voice lessons with amongst others; Claudia Wijers and Peggy Hegeman and with them she developed her great love for classical music.
In 2012 Lieke completed her study Classical Singing at the conservatory in Tilburg with great succes. She studied classical singing with Hanneke Kaasschieter and took lessons in opera singing with Wilma Bierens. At the conservatory Lieke joined in several choir and orchestra project conducted by Louis Buskens and Arjan Tien. She also took masterclasses with, amongst others Jard van Nes, Harry Peeters, Frans Fiselier and Henk Neven. Now Lieke is studying with Emilio Pons and Gemma Visser.
Lieke is performing as a soloist in many different project (see the calendar). For instance she sang the role of Madame Flora in the Medium by Menotti and Mme de Croissy in Dialogues des Carmelites by Poulenc. She sang in great oratoria like the Verdi’s Requiem, the St. John’s Passion and the High Mass by Bach and the Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini. She also sang in the child opera “Koco in the Clouds” by E. Berden. Lieke Beirnaert takes part in Duo Caldo together with Rolf van Meurs (guitar), they perform chamber music. Lieke is not only a singer, she also teaches singing and conducts Youth Choirs and a Mixed Choir.
Lieke’s voice is suitable with opera, oratorium and Lied repertoire.
